Local MP Tom Brake joined college students from many of the colleges in south London at an awards ceremony on Thursday 20 May at the House of Commons to celebrate achievement in learning and skills during Adult Learners Week. Principals and senior staff of the member colleges were also in attendance.
This year's local winners are:
Gary Sing Key who is studying for his electrician's qualifications at Carshalton College. Gary was presented his award by Tom Brake MP and David Watkins, the Principal of Carshalton College and Jacqui Henderson, the Regional Director of London Learning and Skills Council
Douglas Jessup a senior citizen who lives in Carshalton who is developing his writing skills. Douglas was presented his award by Tom Brake MP and Chris Jones, the Principal of Scola and Jacqui Henderson, the Regional Director of London Learning and Skills Council
Richard Abson from Orchard Hill College for improving his life and communication skills. Richard was presented with his award by Tom Brake MP and Caroline Allen, the Principal of Orchard Hill College and Jacqui Henderson, the Regional Director of London Learning and Skills CouncilMr Brake said, "Richard, Gary and Douglas remind us that learning is a lifelong process which people can embark on whatever their skills or educational background. I hope their success stories will inspire all of us, because it's never too late to start learning."
