On Tuesday, Carshalton and Wallington MP Tom Brake raised in a debate in Parliament the innovative work of KBIG, a local company based in Carshalton Beeches whose exciting new product could help to combat global warming. The product is a coconut shell based activated carbon product used in aerosols.
During the debate, Tom drew attention to the new environmentally friendly technology, which has been developed by KBIG and invented by Mike Garrett MBE, the only person ever to be awarded an MBE for innovation.
Mike Garrett's previous inventions have included the Vitox oxygen dissolver which helped to dramatically improve the fish population in the river Thames by adding oxygen to the water.
The European Union currently has draft proposals, similar to legislation introduced by Arnold Schwarzenegger in California, which will make the aerosols in use now illegal, because of the damage they do to the environment. Tom Brake hopes that the debate drew attention to the draft proposals and will increase pressure upon the Government to support action to phase out propellants in aerosols which damage the climate.
Commenting Tom Brake said,
'Environmentally damaging aerosol propellants are contributing to global warming and climate change. We are very lucky to have a company here in Carshalton which has the solution to the harm caused by aerosols.
KBIG Managing Director, Andy Martin, also stated.
'We are very pleased that Tom secured this debate, giving us the chance to promote our green technology directly to the Minister.
