'Steady improvements expected' says Tom Brake

September 8, 2009 3:17 PM

'Steady improvements expected' - that's Tom's verdict on the new South Central rail franchise (which covers the local Southern services) which kicks in from the 20th September.

Tom said, "Although the new franchise will be introduced without fanfare or hoopla in less than two weeks time, rail customers will expect to see a steady improvement in the quality of the rail service they receive. They want cleaner stations, more staff and more security. This is what GoVia are promising. I will hold them to that pledge."

Tom is pleased to confirm that, in a meeting held today with a Senior Manager from GoVia, GoVia are also promising that from December 2010 they will be running later services on Friday and Saturday nights.

Tom said, "Although it is a pity these late services couldn't be introduced earlier, at least from late 2010 onwards those who like to take advantage of London's theatres, cinemas and restaurants won't have to worry so much about dashing for the last train."

If you are a resident of the Carshalton and Wallington constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
