Tom Brake MP for Carshalton and Wallington will be one of the speakers at the Full of Life event in Sutton next week. The event is aimed at the over 50s and will showcase the countless opportunities available to older people in Sutton.
It is being run in conjunction with National Older People's day on 1st October and similar events will be occurring across the country under the Full of Life banner. Older People's Day aims to challenge outdated stereotypes about ageing and help create a more positive view of later life.
Speaking about the day Tom said, 'I hope that UK Older People's Day will not only help to challenge stereotypes but to celebrate the achievements and contributions that older people make in our community.'
The free Full of Life event in Sutton will include guest speakers, information stalls and one to one advice. It is also an excellent opportunity to socialise and meet new people. Tom said, 'I am very happy to be asked to speak at this event. Through my work I get to see first hand the important contribution many older people make in our local area. We must do all we can to support them.'
Tom is encouraging people to come along to the event if they would like to find out how to volunteer, earn some extra money, be more active, take part in activities at local libraries or link up with Age Concern and all its activities.
It will take place in the EUROPA Gallery, Sutton Central Library, St. Nicholas Way, Sutton on Friday 9th October and will run from 11am to 2pm. Free refreshments will be available and there is no need to pre-book or register - just come along on the day.
