Brake Backs Carers Campaign

December 9, 2009 11:30 AM

Tom Brake MP for Carshalton and Wallington showed his support

for Carers UK's national carers' rights campaign last Friday when he joined Sutton Carers Centre in Sutton High Street to meet local carers.

Staff from the Centre were on hand to give out advice leaflets and speak to local people in an effort to raise awareness of carers rights and the support they might be able to get to protect their pensions.

Tom said of the event, 'I was pleased to be able to show my support for the excellent work that Sutton Carers Centre does and to hear first hand about the experiences of local carers. I hope the event and the national campaign will have encouraged local carers to find out more about their pension and benefit entitlements.'

Tom and Paul Burstow MP for Sutton and Cheam also tabled an Early Day Motion (EDM) in Parliament last week in support of the work of the Sutton Carers Centre.

The EDM praised the work of the centre and commended the work it did on Carers Rights Day to help educate local carers on their pension and benefit entitlements

If you are a resident of the Carshalton and Wallington constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
