Department of Health Must Sign St Helier Cheque

December 14, 2009 5:00 PM

'The Department of Health Must Sign the St Helier Hospital Cheque' that was the message delivered to Health Minister Mike O'Brien yesterday by MPs Paul Burstow, Tom Brake and Siobhain McDonagh.

Their message was received loud and clear by the Health Minister, who gave his backing to the plan to re-build part of St Helier Hospital.

Tom Brake said, 'We have now secured the Prime Minister's, Secretary of State's and Minister's pledge that this project will be allowed to proceed. All that is needed now is a green light from planning, final sign-off from the Department of Health and the Treasury, then this truly amazing project can begin.'

Paul Burstow added after the meeting, 'The town needs a modern hospital fit for the 21st century. The Minister gave us a positive response and is working with us to remove any road blocks to getting the funding for this vital project. The clock is ticking and there can be no let up now.'

If you are a resident of the Carshalton and Wallington constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
