Tom Brake Secures Meeting with Greek Ambassador over the Victims of Crime Abroad Meeting.

March 3, 2010 10:40 AM

Maggie Hughes, Tom Brake MP and Julian BraithwaiteMP for Carshalton and Wallington Tom Brake and victim's rights campaigner Maggie Hughes are to meet the Greek Ambassador on the 4th March 2010 to discuss the findings of a report produced by Tom with contributions from Maggie.

The report was produced after a conference in Westminster late last year, attended by a number of families whose loved ones had been severely injured or killed abroad. Maggie's son, Robbie was the victim of a brutal assault when on holiday in Malia in Crete.

Tom said, "Although the conference didn't intend focusing on Greece, most of the victims were involved in incidents in the country. I welcome therefore the willingness of the Greek Ambassador to sit down with us and discuss ways in which the Greek authorities could provide more help to British families when a serious crime occurs or accident in Greece.

The report called on the Greek Government to ensure that all crimes are reported and investigated, work with the UK Embassy to make sure that UK tourists have detailed and accurate information about their destination and provide a more appropriate level of resources for severe cases.

Tom is also seeking a meeting with ABTA - The Travel Association to discuss recommendations in the report directed at tour operators.

If you are a resident of the Carshalton and Wallington constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
