Victory for Sutton Magistrates Court

12.00.00am GMT Mon 8th Mar 2004

Commenting on the announcement that Sutton Council's Appeal against the closure of Shotfield Magistrates' Court in Wallington has been successful, local MP Tom Brake said,

"Common sense has prevailed. At the eleventh hour we have won the fight to ensure that justice is easily accessible and delivered locally, by magistrates who live locally. The cloud that has been hanging over the court has been lifted. It just shows that sometimes, when the local community presents a united front, it is possible to defeat unpopular closures."
