SALVATION ARMY CHRISTMAS FAYRE SUCCESS12.00.00am GMT Wed 30th Nov 2005
On Saturday 26 November Tom Brake MP opened the local Salvation Army's annual Christmas Fayre in Green Wrythe Lane, Carshalton. The event was very well attended and supported by the local community, with people already queuing before the event began at 12 noon. The terrific support enabled the Carshalton Salvation Army to raise over £1,000 to put towards their invaluable work. Tom Brake MP said: "It was a huge success with people queuing up before the doors opened. Santa's grotto, Bric-a-brac, the auction, and all the other stalls were a great draw." Captain Christine Budding, said "The local shops and the community played a great part in helping to raise this fantastic amount of money on Saturday, and I would like to thank them all for their help and support. Christmas is a very important time for us in bringing the true meaning of Christmas to the community through our Carolling programme and especially on Christmas day when we open our hall and serve a Christmas dinner to approximately 50 people who would otherwise be on their own."
