Tom Brake, MP for Carshalton and Wallington, was the guest of honour at a prize-giving ceremony at Carshalton High School for Girls on 6 December.

The purpose of the ceremony was to recognise pupils academic and other significant achievements in the areas of Science, English, Drama, languages and many other fields. Amongst those honoured was a student who had managed to obtain a 100% attendance record during her seven years at the school and two other students who, in spite of significant health problems, had achieved outstanding results.

In his speech Mr Brake warmly congratulated the students for their hard-work and commitment. He said, "It is right that we should recognise their efforts and academic achievements in such a public way. Their hard-work and dedication does credit to their school."

The prize ceremony came during an exciting period for the high school. The school's plans include the addition of new science, technology and special needs facilities.
