Tom Brake MP and Sutton Amnesty Group Fight Against Injustice at Guantanamo Bay10.27.12am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 17th Jul 2007
Tom Brake, MP, joined the Sutton Amnesty Group in Sutton Town Centre on Saturday, 14 July. The Sutton Amnesty Group was there to raise awareness of the plight of detainees at Guantanamo Bay. Reading material was present, along with petitions and letters for people to sign to President George Bush and the US Ambassador in London. There are more than 400 detainees, including eight men from the UK, being held without charge in Guantanamo, undergoing torture and ill treatment, and with no date fixed for their release or trial. Amnesty is campaigning for all the UK residents held at Guantanamo to be immediately returned to the UK, and either released or charged and tried fairly. Tom said, "I commend the Sutton Amnesty Group for raising the awareness of the injustices occurring at Guantanamo Bay. Holding people in prison indefinitely is not acceptable. The prisoners must be charged or released."
