On Wednesday 2nd July, Tom Brake MP for Carshalton and Wallington was elected secretary of the Thameslink Route All Party Parliamentary Group.

The group has been established as the government announced that it will be investing some £5.5 bn on the Thameslink programme which aims to tackle overcrowding on some of the UK's busiest routes.

The program will include the building of new stations, removal of bottlenecks, improving the track and signals and extending over 50 platforms, making a huge difference to passengers travelling to Mitcham Junction, Hackbridge, Carshalton and Sutton.

Tom said: "Thameslink is such a key train service for many of my constituents I had to become a member of this group. We will focus on the things that matter to local commuters, such as overcrowding and information to passengers".
