Brake Backs Sutton and Merton PCT Clean Hands Campaign7.55.50pm BST (GMT +0100) Sun 5th Oct 2008
MP for Carshalton and Wallington Tom Brake, Mayor of Sutton Dr Brendan Hudson and Deputy Mayor of Merton Krysia Williams were all on hand at the launch on September 22nd of the Clean Hands Campaign. Dr Hudson opened the campaign and Sutton and Merton PCT's Medical Director Dr Martyn Wake gave a speech on the history of hand hygiene in healthcare and the importance of hand washing today. The campaign aims to improve the quality of care, reduce cost to the health service and most importantly enhance patient safety and confidence in healthcare. Sutton and Merton PCT's Medical Director Dr Martyn Wake said: "I am very pleased to have been involved in launching the Clean Your Hands campaign at Sutton and Merton PCT. Hand hygiene is a critically important issue, particularly for PCTs as we have to make sure that standards of hygiene are met from primary care right through to hospital care. I am delighted that Tom Brake MP, Mayor Hudson and Deputy Mayor Williams demonstrated their strong support by taking part in today's launch. I believe this will help the NHS across Sutton and Merton improve patients' experiences even more by helping to tackle the problem of infections."
