Tom Brake MP supports 'No Smoking Day'10.20.18am GMT Mon 9th Mar 2009 Local MP Tom Brake is calling on smokers in Carshalton and Wallington to give it up, even if it is for just one day, on 11 March 2009. Despite recent legislation, smoking remains the number one cause of avoidable death in the UK and polls consistently show most smokers would like to quit. Last year, across the UK more than 1.2 million people quit smoking on No Smoking Day and here it is again with a great chance for people to take that last puff. Tom Brake stated that, 'We all know many people who would love to quit smoking but have been unable to do so and I'm sure there are many more in the same boat. This day can help a lot of smokers take the vow together.' He also added that, 'This is a great chance for many people to have another crack at their New Year's Resolution' This years No Smoking Day is on Wednesday 11th March. If you wish to have help to quit smoking you can visit www.nhs.uk/smokefree, or call the 'Smoke Free' helpline free on 0800 022 4332 from 7am-11pm seven days a week.
